Many events are carried out in Cottbus. A lively subculture scene does have many offers for young creatives. Those events and offers can be used as incubator for ambitious artists and creatives.

One of the most popular festivals is the FilmFestival Cottbus. Others are the PolkaBeats Festival, the Toni-Festival and the Kontour-Konzerte. Other facilities focussing on the creative industries are for example the gallery Fango, the gallery Hasu 23 or the city event magazine Blicklicht which is a collaboration product from different independent cultural institutions in Cottbus.

The closeness to the creative hotspot Berlin is a potential but because of the enlarged competition a challenge for local CCI as the economic situation of Cottbus and its region in general still struggles with the consequences of deindustrialization. Therefore creative entrepreneurs need further support to leverage the creative potential.

Cottbus is known for a wide range of public cultural facilities and intermediate organisations which act in the creative and cultural field, e.g. the well known Staatstheater (State theatre), a children and youth theatre and the art museum Dieselkraftwerk, which mainly focuses on local and regional artists.
